How would you make this in lightwave?

It's in Russian, any ideas. Looks like a texture map, and then geometry.
I would do each piece (armor chunk) in zbrush based on a real model
Def some displacement painting. Sick detail on both.

Looks a little like the armour in the crysis game. Maybe use discplacement maps? Or mudbox? I would think making this all in nurbs might be really tedious.
