  • The Next User Group Meeting will be on Wednesday, October 21st at 7:30pm at GMD Studios.

By AntonioVP - Posted on 09 October 2009

    Hello everyone,

There will be a User Group Meeting  Wednesday, October 21st at GMD Studios.
Please arrive at 7:00 PM, Our meeting will start at 7:30 pm.

We have possibly 2 speakers.   Dave from Tres 3d will be speaking about using Lightwave to make 3d games for the Iphone,

and possibly Pete Sussi, of Miragemakers.  He will be talking about some of the projects his company as created.

If Possible, please bring some images or animations for the group to discuss.

GMD will also be speaking about some landscape type projects he's been working on.

I'm bringing some character animation of the "quad rig" that's in the resource area.  I animated it to a cat jumping cycle in the background.  It worked, mostly.  We'll talk about the getting the rig to fit other characters.

Please share any tips, tricks, information, works in progress, etc. I'm also asking for anyone who would like to be a speaker to email me. Any CGI topic is reasonable. If anyone has any animations or tutorials they found on the web, please put them on a thumb drive, or arrive early to download it from the web at the office.

Please RSVP me at antoniovp@gmail.com by the 19th so we know how much food to get.

Thier will be a $5 cover charge for food and Drinks.
If you have any questions please feel free to email me.

    Minutes,

We had a nice time with everyone.   Some new faces, and also some old ones too.

Dave from Tres 3d, or Mission Critical Studios was going to demo his ipod game Dr Nano Created with Lightwave on his laptop, but putting it into hard drive mode, killed the seriel number and caused it not run.  I got to see some of it though, very interesting stuff.  GMD showed wonderful backgrounds for the Musicain Maxwell.  (For backdrop lcd panels at the concert.)  Very nice stuff, loved the undersea stuff, and also the jelly fish came out fantastic, (using cloth dynamics)

  • The November 2008 meeting flyer

By AntonioVP - Posted on 13 November 2008

The Mass Contact module allows attachments, but they never seem to show up in the actual email. I think the author of the module is working on that. Hopefully, I'll be able to do a workaround for images in the mass contact. Hopefully, maybe a newsletter might be in the works if I can get that to work.

    Antonio

P.s. Thanks to GMD for this fine image.

  • Minutes for the August 2007 meeting

By AntonioVP - Posted on 27 September 2009

Thanks to Everyone who came to the August Meeting.
I guess all those emails worked, because we had 15 People come by.
Hopefully now that the Site email seems to be working Correctly We can now be more informed.

GMD discussed his New Demo Reel, which was awesome.
He also explianed some of the finer points, Building your images modularly. (Compositing for ultimate control.)
Oliver showed us some very interesting Projects, including a Sports Car he had to Composte into some Plate Footage. (Which fits into our challenge, perfectly. It was for a Forumula one Company and his comments on how he did the lighting, motion, and client politics were invaluable.)
(For those who had to leave early, We'll try and get some stills.)

Special Thanks for Newtek coming to this meeting.
Philip Nelson and Shay Johnson were able to stop by and eat some sandwitches with us.
It was nice to them supporting thier User Community.

    Antonio

If you like use the comment section on this post to suggest thigns to do at the next meeting.
PHil (user david225) suggested We do a meeting on Cel Shading. Sounds good to me.
I'll modify the car challenge to include cel shading.

  • Back flash of last meeting from MAY 3rd

By AntonioVP - Posted on 27 September 2009

    Hey guys,

Thanx for making it to the last meeting.
I really had a good time hanging out, eating sandwiches and talking geekness.

Here are the links to some of the things we played with at the meeting:

    The face generator app:

    http://www.facegen.com/

    FPrime 3.01:

    http://www.worley.com/E/Products/fprime/fp3.html

The node plugins I mentioned but was not able to recall the URL:

    http://perso.orange.fr/dpont/plugins/Textures.htm

    One of the dopest ones:

    http://perso.orange.fr/dpont/plugins/textures/ParticlePaint.html

Here is the direct link to the download page.

    http://perso.orange.fr/dpont/plugins/Download.htm

    Have fun with it. ///

    (From Antonio):
Hi, Also GMD showed us that in the new nodal plugin, that the little color balls, are supposed
to link up with the little color balls on the other node. Simple idea, but when you get that, the
node editor makes sense. Also when you use the occlusion node, you have to select raytrace or occlusion in the
render panel. Otherwise it won't show up.

Motion Blur in openGL cavet-there is a dropdown arrow right in layout, Make sure your in camera view
to turn it on if your looking for it.
Using TGA files for output. One reason was that the alpha in photoshop is preserved in another layer.
Try using png, and open in photoshop. Your image will have one layer with transparancy. Just not
    as easy to use.

  • User Group

By AntonioVP - Posted on 03 November 2008

Some news periodically will be posted here.
Since the comment area is the one area of drupal that works consistently, and easily, this page is meant to be a quick link for users of the group to just post comments to.
    Attachments are allowed.

Image files can be uploaded using the image picker or as a file attachment.
Make sure you click Switch to rich text editor, to preview the image.

If you have the html editor active, (you see icons for bold, italic etc),it won't allow you to post the code for the image. Click Switch to plain Text editor and then insert your image.  Html code will automatically appear.  You can then switch back to preview the image.

Image picker will allow you to scale down your image, and apply a link to it.
I recommend nothing bigger than 640x480 as the preview, otherwise it will break the css, since this is a fixed width theme.  You can select to link to the original which will pop up with the lightbox, full size.

For the next meeting we will Stick to this format as much as possible:

    7:30 pm - 7:55 pm ----- Arrival and mingling
7:55 pm - 8:00 pm ----- Brief Overview of the nights Meeting
    8:00 pm - 8:30 pm ----- Sponsers demos and/or Industry News
    8:30 pm - 9:00 pm ----- Tips and tricks
    9:00 pm - 9:20 pm ----- Break for food
    9:20 pm - 10:00pm ---- Tips and Tricks continues
10:00 pm - End --------- SHOW AND TELL / Question and Answers and User wip.

This meeting was good. GMD showed us how to use the dp light plugin and put alot of time into creating a unique set to demonstrate the different lights. He also showed us an f-18 with landing gear that opened and closed using one null to control the motions. He used the cycler plugin, which was very elegant because it was simple to setup, and predictible. I showed a little about the fiberFX plugin, and how it has some problems. Save your hair settings as a file, because I had problems saving and reloading my scene files. (the hair settings would be lost) NExt time I think we will work with the guides in fiberfx.
Al Showed us his House renders, which were awesome. What a great use of lightwave, visualizing what his house could be.(Well his brothers house) GMD also went over HDR lighting, and some ways to speed up the render time lowering the threshold for sampling. There were some Wip work, Last but not least was the cupcakes. Man these were delicious. Thanks GMD. What a treat. The frosting was oh so buttery tasting.

    Hi Antonio,

Joe (from Philly) here... thanks for the invite to Splashlight's open house. I rsvp'd that I'd be there. Don't know much about them, but their website is great. Is Proton really on their staff? That would be like meeting Dennis Hopper... too cool.

Ya he's going to be there.
    Moved from cali.
